Germany Considers Ending Syrians' Benefits

German media sources reported that the German government has begun reviewing the status of Syrian refugees, particularly those receiving social assistance, targeting approximately 415,000 individuals who are receiving support as of May 2026. Potential measures include changing residence permits to work permits for doctors, nurses, and others. Syria officially denied these reports, confirming that the talk of deporting 700,000 refugees is inaccurate. Additionally, data showed an increase in the withdrawal of "humanitarian protection" status for Syrians in Germany, with 23.2% of reviews completed in the first half of this year, compared to 3.7% in 2025, due to the expiration of protection conditions or the submission of false information.
