China has applied graphene-based anti-corrosion coating technology to the Xiangshan Port Bridge, which crosses the sea in Zhejiang Province. The bridge spans approximately 8.28 kilometers and is the world's largest cable-stayed railway bridge. The structure faces harsh maritime conditions such as high salinity, humidity, and ultraviolet radiation, which cause steel corrosion and impact the lifespan of the protective materials. The modified graphene coating, offering excellent resistance to salt spray and sound insulation properties, was used to help reduce structural corrosion and extend the service life of the materials. This, in turn, lowers maintenance costs and enhances safety. The technology is high-performing and scalable; it has previously been employed in other projects, such as the Jakarta-Bandung Railway in Indonesia, as well as in marine engineering and space equipment. It is expected to improve safety and durability aspects of cross-sea railway infrastructure.
