WFP stops aid to 500,000 in Gaza

The United Nations World Food Programme has announced a temporary halt in its monthly aid to approximately 500,000 people in Gaza due to funding shortages, reducing the number of beneficiaries from 1.6 million to 1.1 million. The interventions will include cutting the number of hot meals from 250,000 to 150,000 per day, with families in hard-to-reach areas receiving one meal every two days. This step comes amid difficult humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where two-thirds of the population rely on food assistance and face shortages of essential supplies such as flour and cooking gas. Unemployment rates are high, and living conditions continue to deteriorate, with funding less than half of the required amount for 2026. The program aims to raise $450 million to continue its operations, as the food crisis worsens due to ongoing blockade and conflict.
