More than 147,600 women and girls of reproductive age in Taiz Governorate, Yemen, are suffering from a severe decline in healthcare services due to the blockade imposed by the Houthi militias. This makes it difficult for them to access essential maternal and general health care. The restrictions have led most hospitals to cease providing maternity and neonatal services, accompanied by acute shortages of fuel, medical supplies, and healthcare personnel, increasing the risks of maternal and infant deaths and unsafe deliveries. Additionally, protection services for women and girls have deteriorated, including reduced availability of assistive devices and a shortage of "Karamah" kits, exposing women to violence, child marriage, and heightened risks of exploitation. Yemen continues to face high maternal mortality rates, with three women dying each day from preventable pregnancy complications. Moreover, 6.2 million women and girls lack access to basic protection services. There is an urgent need for safe and sustained access to humanitarian assistance to address these critical issues.
