Pakistan TV bans airing unpleasing news

The Electronic Media Regulatory Authority in Pakistan has issued instructions prohibiting television channels from broadcasting "unsuitable" incidents such as explosions, shootings, and terrorist attacks. These restrictions are linked to the requirement that information be verified by government and security agencies. The Committee to Protect Journalists has called on authorities to withdraw these restrictions, warning that they could be used as tools for censorship and to restrict independent journalistic coverage. Particularly since the instructions mandate media outlets to adhere only to official information and implement delays in broadcasting, threatening the independence of journalism and exposing reporters to penalties when covering urgent events. These measures come amid ongoing security and political unrest in the country and raise concerns about restrictions on media coverage and the undermining of journalists' right to report events freely.
