Global Security Forum Examines Hostage Networks

The article covers the activities of the "Global Security Forum 2026" held in Doha, where discussions focused on the escalating networks of crime and armed groups utilizing artificial intelligence tools and hostage-taking as means of extortion. The severity of this phenomenon is increasing, particularly in fragile environments where the rule of law is absent. Experts examined the reasons behind its expansion, such as the deterioration of state institutions in Syria and Nigeria, and the involvement of armed groups in kidnapping operations to achieve financial and political objectives. It was emphasized that resolving this issue requires dismantling detention systems through multifaceted strategies, including strengthening community efforts, rapid information exchange, and implementing strict laws. Additionally, there is a crucial need to cut off funding sources and strip kidnappers of any political cover, along with the importance of effective regional and international cooperation to proactively and efficiently combat this phenomenon.
