Netanyahu's government sustains West Bank settlements

Since December 2022, the Benjamin Netanyahu government has approved the construction or legalization of 104 settlements in the West Bank, as part of an unprecedented settlement expansion campaign aimed at strengthening Israeli control over Palestinian lands and undermining the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. During this period, 267 new outposts have been established, with expansion intensifying after the October 2023 attacks, supported by far-right figures such as Smotrich and Ben Gvir. This has been accompanied by an increase in violence against Palestinians, with reports since September 2023 documenting over 530 incidents. Additionally, support for a two-state solution has dropped to 21% in Israel, amid rising international pressure on the Israeli government.
