Qatar backs diplomacy in Strait of Hormuz crisis

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, affirmed his country's support for diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of maritime navigation in the region and reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves peace. This was during a call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The two discussed the strategic cooperation between Qatar and the United States, as well as the latest regional developments, particularly efforts to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the area. Rubio expressed his appreciation for Qatar's ongoing efforts to end the war in the Middle East, while reaffirming the United States' commitment to Qatar's security and the preservation of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, amid the stalemate in negotiations between Washington and Tehran, which has led to disruptions and Iran's closure of the strait.
