Over 50,000 Heat-Related Deaths in Europe
Europe experienced a deadly heat wave this summer, resulting in over 50,000 deaths, according to a recent study. The study suggests that about two-thirds of the fatalities are due to climate change caused by human activities such as burning coal, oil, and gas, with temperatures rising by more than 5.3 degrees Celsius above the normal in some regions. Italy, France, Spain, and Germany recorded the highest mortality rates, with Rome experiencing the highest total deaths since 2000. Estimates indicate that the actual numbers may be even higher, as the figures do not include the heat wave in May.
