Iraq imports over 3 million tons of wheat

Haider Nouri Al-Kurwaawi, General Director of the Iraq Grain Trading Company, announced that Baghdad has purchased so far 3.194 million tons of local wheat during the harvest season, which began in April and is expected to conclude in mid-July. This effort aims to enhance food security and reduce reliance on imports. Currently, the collection process is underway in all governorates, except for the Kurdistan Region, which recently began collecting its crop. It is anticipated that Iraq's wheat production for the 2025-2026 season will reach approximately five million tons, following the cultivation of about eight million dunams of agricultural land.
