Egypt plans to import about 12 LNG shipments per month starting from July 2024 to meet the increasing demand for natural gas, especially in the electricity sector. The goal is to provide between 2.5 and 2.8 billion cubic feet of imported gas daily, with peaks reaching 3 billion cubic feet during periods of high demand. Egypt resumed LNG imports in April 2024 and is currently expanding its import operations by contracting new regasification units, including a new unit at the Damietta facility scheduled to arrive in July. In the first quarter of 2026, Egypt’s LNG imports increased by 152%, with expectations to purchase around 150 shipments by summer 2026 to bridge the gap between production and demand.
