The "Kalimah" Association for Culture and Media, in collaboration with the "Watani" Ribat Foundation, has launched the national "Taj al-Kalam" (Crown of Speech) Award for Classical Poetry, on the occasion of Poetry National Day on August 17. The aim of the award is to encourage Algerian poets to innovate in topics related to human values, such as liberation, justice, coexistence, and peace, with a focus on the struggle of the Algerian people, the Liberation Revolution, and the sacrifices of the martyrs. The competition welcomes entries from poets inside and outside Algeria, provided that a poem does not exceed thirty lines for a qasida (ode) or forty lines for a Tefeeleh (free verse poem). Submissions must be sent by August 10, 2026. Prizes include cash awards of up to 300,000 dinars for the first place, 200,000 dinars for the second, and 100,000 dinars for the third. The winners will be announced during the Poetry National Day celebration.
