Algerian People's Assembly President Selection Process

The elections for the President of the Algerian People's National Assembly were conducted in accordance with the Constitution and the internal regulations for the new legislative term (the tenth). The Assembly's President was chosen through a secret ballot by the Assembly members, who number 407 seats, following the election results announced on July 18, 2026. The National Liberation Front (FLN) party topped the results with 91 seats, followed by the National Democratic Rally (RND) with 74 seats, and then the Future Movement (Jabhat Al-Mustaqbal) with 56 seats. The President is elected by a majority of votes; if no candidate secures this, a second round is held between the top two candidates, and in case of a tie, the candidate who is older is elected. If only one candidate is running, they are elected by obtaining the majority of votes, with age preference taken into account in the event of a tie.
