Spain reports nine Moroccan migrant deaths at Ceuta

Nine people died while hundreds of migrants attempted to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, adjoining Morocco, according to a spokesperson for the Spanish government. Many of them tried to swim around the border fence to reach the area, reflecting an escalation in illegal migration efforts into Spanish territory via the Moroccan border. Tensions in the region increase the risks of such attempts, as authorities continue to handle the migrant flows through security and humanitarian measures.
