Huge Fire in Spokane and Emergency in Greece
Huge fires in Greece and the United States led to widespread evacuations and the destruction of large areas of forests and farmland. In the state of Washington, the fire started in an unpopulated area and quickly spread over nearly 10 square kilometers due to the wind, forcing authorities to declare a state of emergency and impose a ban on open fires, while investigations into the causes of the fire continue. In Greece, firefighting teams are tackling large-scale wildfires west of Athens, with authorities requesting the evacuation of several towns and destroying approximately 10,000 hectares. Thirteen individuals have been arrested in connection with arson. Adverse weather conditions and high temperatures have exacerbated the fires and increased the danger, amid intense efforts to control them.
