Vandalism and Theft Halt Elevators in 35 Buildings
Thirty-five buildings in the 1800 Housing District in Sidi Bousaid, Oran, were subjected to theft and vandalism targeting elevator equipment, leading to their malfunction for several months. The theft of cables and essential electronic components caused delays in the receipt and operation of the elevators, forcing hundreds of families to climb up to 11 floors on foot. Since the reinstalling of the stolen equipment at the company's expense, the elevators have gradually started to return to service, with assurances that work will continue to fully restore all elevators soon and to ensure residents' safety.
