Private firm owner faces court over forged peanut invoices
The owner of the Mediterranean White Sea Complex was referred to the Criminal Court in Sidi M'hamed on charges of importing a quantity of peanuts from China with forged invoices. The case dates back to November 2020, when he was charged with forgery and using forged documents in commercial papers, after a fake signature was discovered on an import invoice for over 275,000 kilograms of peanuts valued at $203,000, with no currency transfer to China. The defendant denied the charges, adding that the invoices he relied on were prepared by a bank employee. The prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence and a fine of one million Algerian dinars, as well as a fine for the customs company exceeding 75 million dinars. The court's verdict will be announced at a later session.
