Russian scientists create rapid image processing tech
The article focused on developing a new technique for image processing at record-breaking speeds while maintaining quality. Researchers from North Caucasus Federal University in Russia created an algorithm that divides an image into clusters of two-by-two pixels for parallel processing, resulting in a 109% improvement in image compression performance and a 144% enhancement in restoration. The technique involves converting images into binary codes and transmitting them partially over the network. It is important to note that preserving quality requires higher energy consumption, increasing up to 20 times during encoding and 125 times during decoding. The method utilizes algorithms based on the "JPEG XS" standard but accelerates performance at the cost of higher power usage. This approach is particularly useful in fields requiring immediate image analysis.
