Spanish Report Links Morocco to Hashish Economy

Spanish media reports indicate that the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Morocco from Europe, has become one of the main routes for smuggling hashish originating from Morocco, thereby fueling international drug trafficking networks. Morocco tops the world in hashish production, with these networks employing modern techniques such as speedboats and drones to carry out smuggling operations. The continuation of this phenomenon has serious social and economic consequences, as the criminal economy erodes development opportunities and increases the spread of corruption, while illegal funds are used to buy influence. Additionally, expanding smuggling networks to include other drugs, such as cocaine, threatens regional security. The report highlights the importance of reducing the criminal economy through effective development and judicial policies, as well as holding those responsible accountable for negligence.
