Mahdi Tarettah officially announced his retirement from football after a distinguished playing career, launching sharp criticisms against former Algeria national team coach Vladimir Petković, holding him responsible for the team's declining results in the 2026 World Cup, describing his tactical and technical methods as disastrous. Tarettah emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to young players like Ibrahim Mazah and Yassine Titrawi to develop their abilities, noting that Titrawi's absence from the World Cup helped him maintain his level. It is worth mentioning that Tarettah participated in 19 international matches, won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2021 Arab Cup, retiring at the age of 36.
