Pasadena residents oppose wetlands project
Pasadena's proposed project to convert a two-acre, overgrown site along the Arroyo Seco into a constructed wetland to improve water quality has faced significant community opposition. Residents and tribal leaders are concerned about environmental and cultural impacts, including tree removal and potential disturbance to ancestral remains. The city aims to use nearly $15 million to filter pollutants like E. coli and zinc, but opponents argue the site is an important green space and habitat. The project, which involves removing invasive trees and creating new water infiltration basins, is supported by officials as a necessary step to reduce water pollution and prevent fines, despite ongoing protests and legal challenges.
