Suit alleges Meta targeted children
Opening arguments have begun in a federal lawsuit against Meta, led by California and other states, alleging the company intentionally designed its platforms to attract children and misrepresented their safety. The lawsuit claims Meta focused on engaging preteens, violating privacy laws by harvesting data from minors despite policies to restrict them. Meta defends its efforts and argues that recent law limits its ability to do more to protect young users. The case could result in billions in damages and significant changes to Meta’s business practices.
