California and other Democratic-led states are suing to block new U.S. Postal Service rules for mail ballots, which were adopted in response to President Trump's executive order aimed at increasing election security. The rules require states to submit voter lists to the Postal Service, which can reject ballots that do not match those lists, and involve sharing voter data with federal law enforcement. The lawsuit argues the rules unlawfully interfere with state-controlled elections and could cause chaos ahead of the upcoming election. The Supreme Court permitted the Postal Service to proceed but did not determine the legality of the rules.
