President Donald Trump suggested that he might rename Lake Ontario to Lake America amid escalating trade tensions with Canada, refusing to dismiss the idea as a joke. The proposal comes after Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian goods, leading to reciprocal tariffs from Canada, and follows his earlier formal renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Canada's officials have stated they would ignore any such renaming, asserting they will continue to call the lake by its traditional name.
