Newsom enacts laws opposing Trump's immigration policies
Governor Gavin Newsom signed over 20 bills in California aimed at countering federal immigration enforcement tactics, including bans on electric shock gloves for law enforcement and face coverings for federal agents. The legislation enhances state oversight of detention centers, introduces a tax on companies operating such facilities, and makes it easier for residents to sue federal agents for civil rights violations. These measures respond to federal actions and report concerns about detention conditions and accountability.
