Gershkovich recounts Russian arrest
Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter, was detained in Russia on espionage charges after being arrested during a trip to Yekaterinburg. He described his arrest as a setup linked to high-level Russian security officials and recounted his experience in captivity, including fears for his safety. Gershkovich was released in August 2024 through a multinational prisoner swap, amidst concerns about his health and the broader context of US-Russia relations.
