DHS acquires three California detention centers
The Department of Homeland Security purchased three immigrant detention centers in Adelanto from GEO Group for $950 million, following an earlier $1.5 billion sale of other facilities by a competitor. GEO Group will continue managing operations under existing contracts through 2034 and is exploring the sale of additional facilities, aiming to generate $705 million to reduce debt and buy back shares. The purchases are part of broader federal investments in immigration detention facilities totaling nearly $3.2 billion, mostly in California.
