Walmart commits further to AI-based pricing ban
Walmart has publicly reaffirmed that it does not use AI, customer data, or digital shelf labels to set personalized or dynamic prices for shoppers. In a statement, the company’s executive vice president, Dan Bartlett, emphasized that Walmart prices products based on the product itself, not individual customer information or behavioral data. Bartlett defended the use of digital shelf labels as a means to update prices efficiently without identifying customers or altering prices dynamically. The company’s stance contrasts with claims from critics suggesting that Walmart’s patents and technologies could enable personalized pricing, prompting ongoing debates about privacy and pricing practices.
