Isaias is Atlantic season's first hurricane
Hurricane Isaias, the first Atlantic hurricane of the season, threatened the U.S. Gulf Coast, prompting evacuations and school closures in Florida. The storm was forecast to strengthen and bring strong winds, storm surge, and heavy rain to the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, and Mississippi, with potential inland flooding extending into the Tennessee Valley. Authorities implemented emergency measures, including shutting down offshore oil production, evacuating platforms, and preparing for power outages, amid ongoing efforts to mitigate its impact.
