Kennedy Center appoints rock band manager to oversee reopening programming
The Kennedy Center plans to appoint Rick Canny, a talent manager with a background in managing rock musicians, as its new executive artistic director to oversee programming for its reopening in 2028. His hiring aims to refocus the center amid ongoing legal disputes over renovations and controversy related to former President Donald Trump's influence and criticism of its programming. Concerns remain about Canny’s lack of traditional arts experience, as the center seeks to recover from declines in ticket sales and industry challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
