U S joins public executions
The article discusses plans by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to publicly livestream the execution of Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 soldiers. If carried out, it would mark the first U.S. government-sanctioned public execution since 1939 and the first military firing squad execution since 1945. Critics, including religious and political figures, condemn the move as barbaric and inhumane, arguing it undermines moral standards and aligns the U.S. with countries known for public executions. The plan has already faced some bipartisan criticism, emphasizing concerns over the ethical implications of turning executions into entertainment.
