Ancient coin with king's face found after 1,000 years

Archaeologists in Scotland uncovered a 1,000-year-old Anglo-Saxon coin depicting King Ethelred the Unready during an excavation in the Shetland Islands. The coin, minted between 991 and 997 A.D., was found in a coastal area originally investigated for prehistoric structures threatened by erosion. This discovery suggests historic trade links or possible Viking raids and is the northernmost of its kind, potentially enriching local museum collections.
