Lobsterman’s Privacy Case Reaches SCOTUS
A Maine lobsterman challenged a government-mandated GPS tracking device on his boat, arguing it violates Fourth Amendment rights. Despite the Supreme Court declining to hear his case, he continues to oppose the requirement, which collects location data constantly while he fishes and even during personal trips. Supporters, including conservation groups and the Maine Department of Marine Resources, argue the tracking is necessary for industry sustainability and whale protection, but his legal battle highlights ongoing privacy concerns in regulated industries.
