Mamdani and City Council target NYC horse-drawn carriage industry
New York City is planning to abolish horse-drawn carriage rides in Central Park, with a ban set to take effect if approved by the City Council on October 22. The legislation, named Romanch's Law, follows a fatal accident involving an 18-year-old tourist, and would phase out the industry by June 2028. The move has received support from animal rights groups and the Central Park Conservancy, but criticism from the Transport Workers Union concerns the lack of guaranteed financial protections for workers and carriage owners.
