MBTA delays Red Line cars past 2027
The MBTA has announced delays in delivering all its new Red Line trains, with no new timeline specified. Only 68 of the 184 planned cars have been delivered amid ongoing manufacturing issues, COVID disruptions, and a federal seizure of train shells over forced labor concerns. The project, initially expected to be completed within a decade, now faces uncertain completion dates, with some older vehicles still in service.
