Supreme Court declines 9/11 plea deal revival
The Supreme Court declined to review a plea agreement involving Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and alleged al-Qaeda accomplices accused of orchestrating the 9/11 attacks, leaving their military trial as the primary avenue for resolution. The plea deal, which could have avoided the death penalty, was revoked by the Defense Secretary after initial acceptance, prompting legal disputes over authority. Ongoing legal challenges, including a ruling excluding Mohammed's confession, delay the case further, preventing closure after over 20 years of prosecution efforts.
