California expedites college housing
Four new California laws aim to expedite student housing construction by removing environmental review obstacles, preventing frivolous lawsuits, and providing developer incentives. Signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, these laws seek to address the shortage of affordable housing for students, many of whom face high rents and crowded living conditions. The legislation includes exemptions from the California Environmental Quality Act for certain projects, prioritizes housing for foster and unhoused students, and offers additional incentives for developing affordable units. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to streamline the approval process and increase the availability of student housing statewide.
