Boston councilors vote to subpoena T leader
The Boston City Council voted to subpoena MBTA General Manager Phil Eng to testify regarding the $164 million Blue Hill Avenue redesign project, which includes a center-running bus lane aimed at improving transit for 40,000 riders. Critics, led by Councilors Culpepper and Worrell, oppose the plan, advocating for a possible Orange Line extension instead. The council’s rare use of subpoena power highlights tensions over transit planning and community concerns about safety, displacement, and historical rail rights, amidst ongoing discussions and public protests.
