Mamdani likely to face legal issues over horse carriage ban
New York City is considering a proposal to phase out the horse-drawn carriage industry by 2028 following an incident involving an 18-year-old tourist who died after jumping from a runaway carriage in Central Park. The legislation, supported by animal rights groups, aims to transition drivers and ensure humane treatment of horses, but faces legal challenges and opposition from city officials and unions citing economic and safety concerns. Critics warn that the ban could harm tourism, threaten small-business owners, and argue that alternatives like electric bikes and scooters pose greater safety risks.
