US Supreme Court reviews moonshine legality
The US Supreme Court is set to reconsider the 1868 law that bans home distillation of alcohol, which currently carries penalties of prison or fines. Hobby distillers, supported by legal challenges, argue that the law is outdated and unconstitutional, citing historical practices such as George Washington's home distilling. If legalized, advocates believe it could foster growth and education within the industry, though opponents highlight safety and health concerns associated with home production. The case could be decided as early as summer 2027.
