Team's State Bid Denied

A Camas High runner who switched from the boys’ to the girls’ cross-country team midseason finished seventh at Washington state regionals, ahead of a Puyallup runner whose team consequently missed qualifying for the state meet. Runners and advocates at the event criticized the outcome as unfair, while Skyview runner Charlie Garrett said she was frustrated to finish less than a second behind the Camas runner but had qualified for state. The article also reported that Washington voters would consider Initiative 638, which would bar biological males from competing in girls’ K–12 sports.
