Uganda has begun a phased withdrawal of its troops serving under the African Union mission in Somalia, with the first 109 leaving Mogadishu on Friday. Army chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba said security responsibilities would be handed to Somali forces; the withdrawal is expected to finish by August 2027.
