Dmitri Voronkov’s role with the Columbus Blue Jackets has diminished because coaches say his physical play and effort can fade during shifts, while his fitness remains a concern. Before the team’s Nov. 3 game against Colorado, he had played eight of 12 games without a goal and was averaging 10:36 of ice time after dropping to the fourth line. Coach Rick Bowness says Voronkov can earn a larger role by sustaining his forechecking and backchecking, while reports say the Blue Jackets may consider trading him to free salary-cap space.
