Election results produced a wave of historic firsts, mostly for Democrats, including Chris Pappas becoming the first openly gay man elected to the U.S. Senate and Keisha Lance Bottoms becoming the first Black woman elected governor. Voters also elected the first Black governors in Florida and Wisconsin, the first Latina governor of Texas, the first Native American woman governor in New Mexico, and the first Native American woman senator in Minnesota. Other milestones included Dan Koh becoming Massachusetts’ first Asian American elected to Congress and Amy Acton becoming Ohio’s first female governor; Alaska’s Senate result was still pending.
