India’s costliest film, *Ramayana: Rise of a Legend*, has opened worldwide ahead of Diwali as the first of two planned films, with the pair reportedly costing $500m. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, it stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana; the second film is set for release next year. Reviews have been mixed, with critics praising the visual scale and effects while others faulted the storytelling, pacing and action.
