Potential Impact of Sheikh Salman as FIFA President
The 2016 elections marked a turning point in FIFA's management, as Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa was elected president of the International Football Federation with a vision aimed at rebuilding governance systems and strengthening institutions, moving away from decision-making based on personalities. His plan focused on separating executive management from commercial interests, distributing powers among the continents, and enhancing transparency and governance, which contributed to the stability and unification of continental federations. Despite his successes, subsequent developments led to a crisis of trust within FIFA, with Europe's role diminishing and increasing criticism over excessive expansion and financial influence. This ultimately prompted calls for a reorganization of the game to focus on making football truly for everyone, rather than merely a profitable venture for investors.
