China releases detailed Moon map
Chinese scientists have conducted a precise geological atlas of the Moon at a 1:5,000,000 scale, using a detailed map that includes over 13,000 cratered pits and 81 impact basins. The atlas also classifies 14 types of geological formations and 17 types of rocks on its surface. The map, which measures 280 cm in length and 120 cm in width, provides an important scientific foundation for future projects such as establishing lunar research stations and selecting landing sites for spacecraft. It is considered a significant contribution to the study of the evolution of the solar system. The institute hopes that this map will help improve standards for classifying lunar geological materials and support future research.
