A 3-month-old infant in China suffered poisoning due to a mistake in preparing formula milk using vegetable juice instead of water. This resulted in a change in his skin color to purple and difficulty breathing, leading to his transfer to intensive care at Zhongshan Hospital. The doctors explained that nitrite poisoning occurred because of the reliance on long-cooked vegetable juice, which caused elevated nitrate levels. They also warned about the dangers of mixing formula with any liquids other than warm water.
