Sarah Tiba and Anas Baathef on A Matter of Life and Death
The film "A Matter of Life or Death" is a Saudi cinematic work selected to represent the Kingdom in the Best International Film category at the 2027 Oscars. The story is set in Jeddah and revolves around "Haya," a young woman who believes a family curse will end her life on her thirtieth birthday, and "Yusuf," a heart surgeon suffering from a condition linked to his heartbeat that accelerates when he nears death or commits a murder. The relationship between the two characters develops through an unconventional blend of romance and dark comedy, as their painful childhood experiences—such as abandonment and obsessive-compulsive disorder—bring them together to discover the meaning of life and love in a new way. The film reflects the impact of love on the characters and aims to tell a human story that combines suspense and drama, highlighted by a remarkable performance from Sara Tiba, who won the Best Acting Award at the Red Sea International Film Festival.
