UAE Flag Day is celebrated on November 3 each year as a renewed opportunity to express loyalty, belonging, and pride in the nation, and to strengthen national identity and values among generations and residents. The story of the flag began with a competition launched two months before the founding of the state. Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah’s design was selected from more than a thousand entries, and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan raised the flag for the first time at Union House in Dubai on December 2, 1971. Flag Day was officially established in 2012 at the initiative of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and has since become an annual tradition bringing institutions and individuals together around the symbol of union and solidarity.
